WHAT OUR HOMEOWNERS HAVE TO SAY

Testimonials

Our dentist has a sign in his office that reads, “If you don’t like our service, tell us. If you do, tell others.” That’s exactly what some of current homeowners have done. Below is just a small selection of what some of them had to say. Perhaps these are just some of the reasons West Shore Beach Club was nominated for the 2014 Community of the Year award by the prestigious BILD Awards.

Maybe we’ll see your name featured here soon.

Patrice & John K.

After looking several months for a cottage, Patrice and John K. found just what they had been searching for at West Shore. The Cove, a four bedroom two-storey home will initially be a weekend home shared with their daughter Amanda but ultimately they plan to make it permanent.

“We absolutely loved the courtyard of the house,” said Patrice. “That was one of the deciding factors for us. Important too, was the maintenance-free lifestyle West Shore offers so that it truly feels like a holiday every day we are there.” West Shore will be a four-season location for them. “We plan to enjoy our new home throughout the year, swimming and, kayaking in summer and cross country skiing in winter, “adds John. “And the Skylife membership for a year will be a lot of fun to explore. We will definitely use it.”

The Grellette’s

The Grellette’s have always stopped at Weber’s on their way up to their family cottage. This year, with their focus on husband Leo’s retirement plans from his career as head of Building Standards at the City of Vaughan, they found more than refreshment. They discovered their new home at West Shore Beach Club on Lake Couchiching.

“We’ve actually been looking for years,” says Leo, “Rather than a single cottage on a lake, my wife wanted to live in a community but likes the water.” They plan to move in early next spring and will live there full time.

The Grellettes had the whole family in mind when they chose West Shore Beach Club. They have two grown children and five grandchildren who will visit and enjoy the Marine House, 300-ft. sandy bottom beach and 80–ft floating dock. They’re pleased that, with the appeal of the beach and all the things to do in the area, they will have plenty of room for visiting family in their 1,895 sq. ft. new ‘beach house’.

Proximity to family was a key consideration in choosing West Shore. Says Leo, “We looked at Huntsville, Midland, Collingwood and so on. But the location just an hour from family in Newmarket sold us.” Already, their family have toured the site and given an enthusiastic thumbs up.

For the Grellette family, West Shore ticked all the boxes, from the excellent selection of home designs, to price, location and amenities. Leo is pleased that maintenance will be a thing of the past for him. “West Shore is almost turn key so we can travel if we want and the house will still have that lived-in look, with the lawns and snow shovelling taken care of.”

The Grellettes chose The Dunes, Elevation D, a two-storey home with main floor master bedroom retreat, and decided on the optional two-bedroom with Loft and Deck. Describing the Sales Staff as ‘very welcoming, not pushy but professional’, the Grellettes met independently with the builder to finalize the purchase and were gratified by the very personal touch to the whole transaction.

Both of them are excited about moving in. Attending the recent BBQ on the beach, the couple met some of their new neighbours-to-be and look forward to settling into their new life by the beach at West Shore Beach Club.

Marlene and John N.

After searching from Peterborough all the way to Gravenhurst,, Marlene and John noticed the West Shore sign on Highway 11 and drove into the sales office. They knew this was what they had been looking for after touring the model homes and settled on The Dunes bungalow.

“We bought the home primarily to enjoy with our children but also plan to make it a permanent home when we retire. The beautiful sandy beach was a real draw for us,” said Marlene., “as well as the close proximity to all the shops and services one could ever need.”

“We also look forward to taking advantage of the many golf courses in the area,” added John.

It was the easy commute from Ancaster where they currently live, that helped in the decision-making and the fact that the community is on municipal water, sewers, hydro and natural gas.

Hoping to move into their new home in the fall, John and Marlene have already met two of their new neighbours and believe West Shore creates an environment where they can socialize with members of the community. They felt that there were many people that were looking for luxury but didn’t want all the work to maintain it, and as a result, chose West Shore.

Evelyn & Richard Matson

When an excited, and knowledgeable, new home buyer voluntarily becomes a de facto ‘salesperson’, as a builder you can feel confident that yours is one very special neighbourhood.

“I can’t recommend something that I don’t believe in,” says Evelyn Matson, who has encouraged friends and family to come and see the stunning Model Homes at West Shore Beach Club on Lake Couchiching near Orillia.

Happily for Summerhill Homes, Evelyn has more than one reason to be enamoured with West Shore where she and her husband have recently purchased their new home.

Looking to downsize from her current home with its ‘monster’ garden to something more maintenance-free, Evelyn wanted to move back to the water where they had been some years ago but thought the upkeep would make that impossible. Richard wasn’t ready to give up his yard and hobby space for a condo. Then they discovered West Shore Beach Club. “It just seemed right for us,” says Evelyn. “It gives us a no-maintenance place, it gives us the water, a garage and yard. Plus we have the choice to spend time away in winter without worrying.”

Evelyn’s husband, Richard Matson is ‘in the trades’ so he’s in the know when it comes to assessing quality materials and building techniques and for him as a construction professional, it’s all thumbs up for West Shore. “I keep asking and he just keeps nodding that everything’s excellent,” says Evelyn, adding, “He’s really excited.”

The Matson’s son and daughter-in-law have accompanied the delighted couple to West Shore Beach Club and given their enthusiastic seal of approval, as have Evelyn’s cousin’s wife as well as her sister-in law and numerous friends. Evelyn is a member of Lake Country harmony, an Orillia-based women’s barbershop chorus, and informed her fellow members about their new home excitement.

Summerhill Homes is offering a wide selection of over 20 remarkable elevations at West Shore Beach Club. The Matsons chose The Dunes Elevation B bungalow. Construction has begun and the couple were pleased that there was some flexibility to adjust the plan to meet their family’s specific needs.

It was the water and the community’s beautiful 300-ft sandy beach that cinched the decision for the Matsons, who hope to have a view of the water from their customized 9’ x 14’ deck. “Being on the water was so important for us. Just looking at the water reduces your stress level by 50%,” she laughs. Evelyn pictures taking her morning coffee and sitting on the beach by Lake Couchiching, or on the rooftop viewing deck of the Marine House.

With construction underway and models to view, it doesn’t take much imagination to visualize Evelyn doing just that. No wonder she can’t help telling everyone she meets all about West Shore Beach Club.

Donna Robinson

Originally from Brampton, Donna whose husband passed away six years ago, was looking to downsize. Once she came across an advertisement for West Shore and visited the location, Donna knew she had found her new home.

“I was living in a very large house with a pool, backyard and pond, but it was difficult to maintain,” she says. “I was looking for a cottage and a house all in one and my son alerted me to West Shore.”

After having moved to West Shore in March, Donna is enjoying her Lakeside unit. “I like the area and looking at the view of Lake Couchiching from my front balcony. There are plenty of places to shop and it’s easy for me to travel to and from Toronto,” she continued.

For Donna, it feels like she’s coming back home as her mother and father-in-law used to live in a golf community nearby. As for the future, Donna looks forward to meeting and getting to know her neighbours as the community continues to grow.

Libby & Igor E.

Libby and Igor purchased their West Shore home in 2012 and purchased The Dunes model. From Toronto, the couple chose the design with the loft and three bedrooms with an eye to accommodating their children and grandchildren. Appealing also was the close proximity to Toronto.

“A friend of ours who was a real estate agent told us about the project and when we went to see where it was, it was nothing but a field of snow,” said Libby. “He knew that we would want a place that was not just a small condominium unit, but have space where we could bring our family.”

Their intention initially is to use their new home primarily on weekends as Igor is still busy working in Toronto. They love the private sandy lake at West Shore and especially that it is so shallow – ideal for their young grandchildren. Both outdoor enthusiasts, Libby and Igor take advantage of the cycling trails nearby and often walk or cycle to the little vegetable store just a few minutes away on Highway 11. Kayaking has become a regular pastime for the couple along the idyllic shores of Lake Couchiching and Igor has tried out two of the nearby golf courses.

“West Shore was truly a great choice for us and our lifestyle,” said Libby. “From the Orillia Opera House to all the shops and services one could need, we can’t think of a better place to spend our summers.”
